New Delhi: Former Team India opener Aakash Chopra feels that if Mumbai Indians (MI) have to keep an eye on Jasprit Bumrah's fitness, they will have to obey the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Bumrah has been away from cricket action for a long time due to repeated injuries and has also missed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after T20 World Cup 2022.
The final of the World Test Championship (WTC) and the ODI World Cup are to be held this year. In such a situation, the BCCI would like to ensure that Bumrah's return to the IPL does not resurface his back injury. This is the reason why Akash Chopra feels that if BCCI states that Bumrah should be rested for a few matches, then Mumbai Indians will have to obey BCCI. Akash Chopra said, 'You are Indian players first and then you play for your franchise. So if Bumrah feels any discomfort, BCCI will intervene and tell the franchises that we are not going to release him. If he does not play 7 matches with Jofra Archer, the world will not end.'
Chopra further said, 'At the same time, when you are fit, you want to keep playing because it makes you better. So I definitely feel that if BCCI intervenes then Mumbai Indians will look into it as he is a national treasure and managing things is not as difficult as it seems at the moment.'
