HYDERABAD: Three Iranian nationals have reportedly been detained in Telangana's Medak district on charges of theft, police said on Tuesday. They were found allegedly engaging in three cases of theft through attention diversion.

The accused have been identified as Tehran, Iran's capital city, citizens Davalu Kareem (26), Evaji Nadar (54), and Binyaz Brahman (35).

According to a police official, the Iranians entered India on tourist visas, and one of their visas had already expired one month prior. They were taken away by the police together with Rs 95,000, $850, and IRR 30,50,000.

Rohini Priyadarshini, the superintendent of police for the Medak district, said that the trio stole from three businesses after deflecting the attention of the business owners by displaying Iranian currency for exchange with Indian money.
The police made the arrests on Sunday while looking into two theft accusations made by the proprietors of a chicken store in Ramayampet and a gas agency in Chegunta.

After it was found that the accused was seen driving around in a car in various locations in the Medak area on October 1, three police teams formed to investigate the theft examined the CCTV footage. Police located the automobile on October 2 and apprehended three individuals for interrogation. The accused, according to the SP, admitted to the thefts.

The car, three cell phones, three Iranian passports, and two Iranian driver's licences were all taken by the police.
A month prior, the suspects had arrived in Hyderabad and were lodging there. The Iranian Embassy was being contacted by the authorities in an effort to learn more about them.
