Uproar over Nitish govt's decision, people protest on Twitter

Patna: People have now raised a hue and cry against the Bihar government's proposal to demolish the Sultan Palace in the heart of Bihar's capital Patna. On Wednesday, users took to Twitter to run a hashtag called Save Sultan Palace. Thereafter, there was a flood of comments from those who saved the Sultan's Palace.

The same people started appealing not to demolish the iconic building. This was followed by tweets in large numbers till late in the night, all #SaveSultanPalace the same hashtag. In the big statistics associated with this trend, users also shared photos of the Sultan's palace. From smaller cities in Bihar to big cities like Delhi and Kolkata, people joined in to raise their voices against the government's decision and many people tagged CM Nitish Kumar's official account and appealed to him not to break the Palace.

The same person wrote on Twitter that the Sultan Palace is the pride of the capital Patna. It is sad to destroy a place where the historical heritage is taken over. He further wrote that I am preparing to fight a legal battle against the government's move. A written petition will be filed in the Patna High Court soon. Another person, Sahil, wrote in Hindi that there are a handful of historical buildings left in Patna. The Sultan Palace is one of them and is a rare specimen of mixed architecture. The government has decided to demolish it to make it a five-star hotel. On this decision, historians and members of civil society should strongly oppose it.
