Lucknow: 250 children from Purvanchal, who lost their parents or one of them due to a corona infection, are still waiting for a laptop tablet. They are to be given laptops under the Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana. In Purvanchal, the highest number of such children are in Varanasi and the least in Ballia, Mau and Mirzapur districts.

If we look at the district-wise figures of probation offices, 66 children in Varanasi, 54 in Ghazipur, 35 in Bhadohi, 22 in Chandauli, 21 in Sonbhadra, 15 in Jaunpur, 10 in Azamgarh, 9 in Ballia, 9 in Mau, 9 in Mirzapur are still hoping to get laptops. Deputy Director (Women Welfare) Praveen Kumar Tripathi has informed that laptops for children have been purchased in Varanasi, but they are yet to be distributed. He said that the benefits of the scheme will be given to the children of class 9 or above and those pursuing vocational and technical education.

Of the 302 children of Varanasi district who have lost their parents due to Corona, 170 are boys and 132 girls. They are given four thousand rupees per month under the Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana. Three instalments of Rs 12,000 a year are sent to their parents' bank accounts. The District Probation Office also follows up on the education and other needs of these children. At the same time, the government gives Rs 2500 per month to children who lose their parents or one to other diseases. There are 65 such children in Varanasi.
