Dehradun: Harak Singh Rawat, a popular leader of Uttarakhand's siasat, will not contest for the first time in the electoral history of two decades after the formation of the state. After joining the Congress, he was projected to contest from Chaubattakhal Assembly seat. Harak Singh Rawat himself said that if the party speaks to contest the elections, he will contest the elections. Even before he was expelled from the BJP, Harak Singh Rawat was constantly making statements that he did not want to contest elections.

However, when the BJP showed him the way out of the party, it was the reason why Harak Singh was demanding another ticket for himself, for his daughter-in-law and another. After joining the Congress, Harak Singh Rawat's daughter-in-law Anukriti Gusain got a ticket from Lansdowne. But Harak Singh Rawat was not made a candidate by the Congress.

On Thursday, the Congress announced its candidates for all its remaining assembly seats. Friday is the last day of nominations. Harak Singh Rawat is not contesting for the first time in three decades of electoral politics. In all the assembly elections held so far after the formation of Uttarakhand state, Harak Singh Rawat had taal thok thumped and reached the assembly. He won the election from the Lansdowne seat in 2002.
