IIT: These IITs got the status of an institute of national importance, know the whole matter

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Act Amendment Bill 2020, which provides for the status of five IITs as institutions of national importance. The proposal to this effect was approved in the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After the same meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters that there are 25 IIITs in the country out of which 20 IIITs have been accorded the status of an institution of national importance.

Apart from this, he said that the status of institute of national importance to 5 IIITs could not be conferred in the year 2017 as many courses were not started. Now these courses have started. Javadekar said that it has been decided to accord status of national importance to these five IITs in Surat, Bhopal, Bhagalpur, Agartala and Raichur. With this, these institutions will be able to award degrees, students will be able to do PhD and the credibility of these institutions will be built in the world.

For your information, let us tell you that the Minister said that IIT is given much attention on information and technology, so students get instant campus placement from these institutions. After its decision today, all 25 IITs will get the status of national importance.
