Judoka, who lived with a convict of sexually assaulting a Spanish girl in a Hotel in Madrid (Spain), has been dropped from the Indian squad for the Commonwealth Games. The name of Judoka Jasleen Singh, who was earlier selected in the list of 318-member Birmingham-bound contingent released by the Sports Ministry, was not added. Now in Birmingham, only five judokas are going to participate instead of six. On the demand of boxer Lovlina, who won a medal in Tokyo, her coach Sandhya Gurung has been included in the team.
Jasleen's name was included from the beginning: The Judo Federation of India's Committee of Administrators (CoA) has ordered an inquiry into the incident that took place in Madrid last month. The three judokas involved in the incident, Harshdeep, Divyanshu and Jasleen, have been barred from playing till the results of the investigation. Although Jasleen has been selected for the Commonwealth Games squad, the investigation has not yet been completed, due to which Jasleen's name has been removed from the Birmingham-bound squad.
For Birmingham, Vijay Yadav (60), Jasleen (66), Deepak Deshwal (100), Sushila Chanu (48), Suchika Tariyal (57) and Tulika Mann (78) were selected on the basis of trials. All of their names were included in the initial list, but Jasleen's name has been dropped in the final list.
The girl had filed a police case: Harshdeep, Divyanshu, and Jasleen are accused of going to a pub in Madrid without informing the coach, where they have even booked a hotel room with a girl. The same girl has already filed a police case accusing Harshdeep of sexual harassment. However, later Harshdeep was not proved guilty when he was released there. It was only after this that the CoA instituted an internal inquiry into the matter.
