Indian doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, solo player Sameer Verma were nominated by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) for the Arjuna Awards. This pair of the world's tenth rankings will give high hopes in the Tokyo Olympics. Together, the two earned many successes for India in the past. Historical gold medals at Thailand Open, French Open and 2018 Commonwealth Games are some of the achievements due to which both shuttlers appear to be strong contenders for the Arjuna Award.

Veteran Indian player Sameer Verma made it to the finals of the 2016 Hong Kong Open, last year was nothing special. He also reached his career-best ranking of 11 in 2018, winning three titles. The game led him to the semi-finals of the BWF World Tour Finals 2018.

Certified coaches S Muralitharan and Bhaskar Babu from Netaji Subhash National Sports Institute were nominated for the Dronacharya Award. While Muralitharan has given credit to many former international players like Vimal Kumar, Rupesh Kuma, Senav Thomas and to create players like Chetan Anand, Saina Nehwal, P Kashyap after Bhaskar Babu. Now he is preparing new players. Pradeep Gandhe and Manjusha Kanwar have been named for Dhyan Chandra Award
