We all are excited for Navaratri, The festival of Joy, Dance and Purity. It is one of the India’s one of India's most cherished Festivals . It is celebrated with great enthusiasm in India and is regarded as the start of the Hindu New Year in India. 
 
The nine-day festival of Navratri dedicated to Mother Goddess Durga is just around the corner. During these nine days, devotees keep a fast after performing the Ghatasthapana or Kalash Sthapana on the first day, i.e. Pratipada. The Shardiya Navratri in the Hindu month of Ashwin is the most important and significant of all Navratris (Magha, Chaitra and Ashadha). 
Navratri is an auspicious festival, several people fast during the nine days. Here are things which are prohibited during Navratri.
 
Do not get your hair cut or shaved during Navratri celebrations.
Do not use seed-based oils or refined oil for preparing food during Navratri. Instead, go for pure ghee or peanut oil.
It is popularly known that garlic and onion are strictly avoided in the preparation of dishes during Navratris.  Apart from garlic you should also skip things like phaliyaan, rice flour, all-purpose flour, cornflour, lentils, and semolina.
It is important to do the Kalash Sthapana or Ghatasthapana on the first day of Navratri. You should not skip these rituals.
Kanya Puja or Kanya Bhojan is a sacred tradition which should be performed at least on the eighth and ninth day. Do not skip these. If it is not possible for you to organize this then you can also donate some things to little girls.
Alcohol and Non vegetarian food is also forbidden during these nine days
