Punjab National Bank has announced a big gift to its officers. In fact, the second largest public sector bank has decided to pay Rs 2 lakh annually to its top management to buy a mobile handset. According to the report, the employee welfare benefit norms have been revised and accordingly the top management of Punjab National Bank (PNB) will be given a handset allowance of Rs 2 lakh. The officers who will be given this benefit include the managing director (MD) and executive director.

Punjab National Bank has four executive directors to assist MD and CEO. The report said that these top officers will receive Rs 2 lakh every year for buying mobile handsets. It quoted sources as saying that the revised norms as per the PNB board's decision are applicable from April 1, 2022.

In addition, the eligibility of mobile phones for the Chief General Manager (CGM) in the bank has been retained at the previous level. According to the guidelines, the handset allowance is fixed at Rs 50,000 per annum for CGM and Rs 40,000 for GM. However, there was no comment from Punjab National Bank in this regard. A mail was sent to PNB seeking information in this regard, but there has been no response from the bank so far. Significantly, mobile phones are included in the products with 18 per cent GST.
