Be it theatre or Bollywood, regional films or writing, direction or sketching, a person who has become so engrossed in every genre of art that he has become his. Girish Karnad was born on May 19, 1938, in Matheran, Maharashtra. 

Girish Karnad, who was interested in plays and theatre since childhood, wrote many plays in theater, including the historical drama 'Tughlaq', as well as  'Yayati', 'Hayavadan', 'Anju Mallige', 'Agnimattu Male', 'Nagamandal' and 'Agni Aur Barkha' which still remain the pride of the world of theatre. 

Along with plays, Girish Karnad worked on writing many films as well as leaving an impression of his acting in many films which will be remembered for years. Girish Karnad started his career as a writer in 1970 with the Kannada film 'Samskara', after which he also acted in many films including Nishant, Manthan, Pukar, Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai.  Karnad has also served as the president of the Sangeet Natak Akademi. Girish Karnad's contribution to Indian art, which has received many awards, is invaluable and will never be forgotten.
