One of the most popular Odia singers, Murali Prasad Mohapatra collapsed while he was performing live at an event in Jeypore town on Sunday night, and was rushed to the hospital but had passed away. He was just 59.
As per the information the singer Mohapatra was performing at a show organised at Rajnagar in Jeypore town of Koraput district for Durga Puja. After singing a couple of songs, he sat on a chair on the stage and was listening to other singers, during which he collapsed. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but doctors there declared him dead, family
Murali’s elder brother Bibhuti Prasad Mohapatra said he had been suffering from heart problems and diabetes for a long time He was also known as Akshya Mohanty of Jeypore. Murali, was working as a clerk at the office of Jeypore Sub-collector, before trying his luck in singing.
His friend Prasant Kumar Mishra said Mohapatra had informed the audience that he was unwell and requested all to cooperate if there was any mistake. Mohapatra used to follow the singing style of legendary Odia singer, songwriter and composer Akshaya Mohanty. People used to describe him as Akshaya Mohanty of Jeypore.
CM pays Tribute
The Chief Minister pf Odisha, Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of Mohapatra. He took to his social media and wrote, “Saddened to know about the demise of popular singer Murali Mohapatra. His sweet voice will always ignite the hearts of listeners. May his soul rest in peace. My condolence to his family.”
