Melbourne: The Harris Park area in Australia has been renamed as 'Little India'. Australian PM Anthony Albanese announced this in the presence of PM Modi during a special community event on Tuesday (May 23). Let us tell you that, Harris Park is a center in Western Sydney, where the Indian community celebrates festivals and events like Holi-Diwali and Australia Day. PM Narendra Modi tweeted that I had the opportunity to welcome PM Anthony Albanese on Indian soil in Ahmedabad. He is present here with me today in the program of laying the foundation stone of 'Little India'.

According to the report, the City of Parramatta wrote on its website that Harris Park is a thriving, dynamic, multicultural hub, known for its mix of cultures and large Indian population. She said that Harris Park, known as Little India, has more than 20 eateries on Wigram, Marion and Station Street. There are shops selling colorful sarees, shiny bangles and Indian spices that will make you feel like you are standing in Mumbai. Let us tell you that about 6 lakh Indians live in Australia's Little India, which is about 45 percent of the total population here.

 

PM Modi thanked Albanese for naming Harris Park as 'Little India'. PM Modi said during the community program, 'Thank you, my friend Anthony.' He said that this is a recognition of the Australian society to the Indian community. I would like to thank the Premier of New South Wales, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor and Councilors of the City of Parramatta for this special honour.
