Bhubaneswar: Padma-Shri winner Daitari Nayak, popularly known as Manjhi and Canal Man of Odisha, now wants to return the highest civilian honour Padma Shri Award to the government in 2019. In fact, the 70-year-old Daitari Nayak, who was awarded Padma Shri, says that this honour has taken away his livelihood and all the belongings that he is now able to live with and his family with great difficulty. Today, they are not getting even two meals a day.

Naik has said that since the Padma Shri met, people have started to respect him, though there are some who are now taunting him for being rich. While they are losing instead of benefiting from it. Because now people see them with respect and are shying away from giving them work. So they are facing a lot of economic problems.
