The waitlist facility allows you to book a ticket. However, you aren't supposed to board the train unless there are enough cancellations to at least get RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) status. But now Indian Railways is going to come up with an app that will soon be able to tell how many possibilities of converting a waiting ticket to confirm can be made. Indian Railways spokesman Anil Saxena said that "Railways is working on an app that will help in determining if there is any possibility of confirming the waiting ticket."
This app will tell, how many possibilities of confirming the waiting ticket. He said that this prediction will be based on passenger operations and booking pattern data for the last 13 years. Saxena further said that CRIS (Railway Information System Center) is developing mixed applications for Railways, where users will be informed about the confirmation or related information of the waiting ticket while booking the tickets on the website of the railway and app.
Indian Railway offers tickets for around 10.5 lakh berths every day and about 13 lakh tickets are booked. According to the figures present in the railway, about 13 lakh tickets are booked every day for 10.5 lakh berths in all categories. A Railway official has said that the idea of estimating the possibility of confirming the tickets to the waiting list was from Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.
