Parthiv Ajay Patel, the youngest wicket-keeper batsman in Test cricket, made his Test debut in 2002 against  England at Nottingham. At that time, his age was 17 years and 152 days. Born on March 9, 1985, in Hyderabad, Parthiv is celebrating his 37th birthday today. Left-handed batsman Parthiv Patel is one such player who also got the opportunity to play in the Test team without playing any first-class match. Parthiv was included in the Test squad after wicket-keeper Ajay Ratra was injured in the middle of the match at Nottingham. Before him, Pakistan's Hanif Mohammad (17 years 300 days) was also given the honour of making his debut in Test cricket at the youngest age.

In 20 Tests, Parthiv Patel has scored 683 runs at an average of 29.69, including his four fifties. In Test matches, his highest score is 69 runs while he has stumped 8 players and taken 41 catches. Parthiv Patel started his ODI cricket career against New Zealand in January 2003. During this time, Parthiv was also selected in the selected team for the 2003 World Cup match. However, in this tournament, he did not get a chance to play in any match. Rahul Dravid kept wickets throughout the tournament to include an extra batsman in the playing XI.

For two consecutive years from 2003, he played 13 ODIs and scored runs at an average of 14.66. Meanwhile, his top score was 28 runs. After which he was dropped from the team. He then came back against New Zealand in 2010. In the 4th and 5th ODIs against New Zealand, Parthiv made a strong comeback by hitting two consecutive fifties. According to media reports, he scored 736 runs in 38 matches at an average of 23.74, including his four fifties. His 95 runs is the top score in ODIs. At the same time, behind the wicket, he took 20 catches while stumping 8 players.

In the glamour and thrill-filled Indian Premier League, Parthiv played for CSK for three consecutive seasons. After that, he represented Kochi Tuskers and Deccan Chargers respectively. In IPL Season 6, Parthiv was seen playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
