This budget smartphone from Samsung has reportedly overtaken Apple's iPhones and has gone a long way. Not only that, it has become the most-cherished smartphone in 2021. Surprisingly, it is the Samsung Galaxy A12. Starting at the end of 2020, the device has topped the list of the most shipped phones with a figure of 50 million+ units. According to Omdia's 2021 report, the Samsung Galaxy A12 is the most shipped phone.
Samsung's Rs 12,000 phone: Samsung has reportedly shipped 51.8 million units of the device and has taken over the second-highest-shipped device, the Apple iPhone 12. Interestingly, the sale price of the iPhone 12 is 5 times higher than that of the Galaxy A12. The average selling price of the Galaxy A12 is $160 (Rs 12,000) against the iPhone 12's $851 (Rs 65,000).
Redmi 9A was also quite popular: Talking about the iPhone 12, the phone sold 41.7 million units in 2021. Since then, 34.9 million units of the iPhone 13, the successor, have been sold. The iPhone 11 is at the fourth spot with sales of 33.6 million units. After three flagships, the 5th-ranked phone was the entry-level Redmi 9A. It is the cheapest phone in the list, its average selling price is $78 (Rs 5,923), followed by iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro. Finally, the 10th phone on Omdia's list is the Samsung Galaxy A02, which is going to be an entry-level device again.
Samsung A-Series is a super hit: In particular, the most expensive phone sent according to the list is the iPhone 13 Pro Max. As mentioned earlier, the Redmi 9A is the cheapest. Samsung's top position in this list indicates that budget A-series phones are very popular. Since 2019, the company has focused on the A-Series on the J-Series and the A-Series' market share has seen steady growth since then. That said, we expect to see more A-series phones in reports like this as Samsung is focusing on its mid- and budget-range segments globally.
