New Delhi: India can make a new record in the total production of food grains including wheat, paddy, gram this year due to the kind of monsoon. During the last monsoon season, there was 10 percent more rainfall than the average, which has raised hopes of the bumper yield of rabi crops including Kharif. According to the second advance production estimate for the crop year 2019-20 (July-June) released by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on Tuesday, the country is expected to produce around 29.19 million tonnes of food grains this year, compared to the previous year 67.4 lakh tons is more.

According to media reports, the production of food grains in the crop year 2018-19 was 28.52 million tonnes. The production of food grains in the country is estimated to be 26.6 million tonnes higher this year than the average production of food grains in the last five years (2013-14 to 2018-19). According to the second advance production estimate, paddy production is expected to be a record 11.74 million tonnes in 2019-20, which is 96.7 lakh tonnes more than the previous year.

The production of wheat is expected to be a record 10.62 million tonnes this year, which is 26.1 lakh tonnes more than the previous year. Wheat production is going to be 1.16 million tonnes more this year than the average of 946 million tonnes in the last five years.
