Amid a significant escalation in violence, thousands of Palestinians have been forced to flee their homes as Israeli forces advance into densely populated cities in southern and central Gaza.
Residents reported intense fighting on Sunday in eastern areas of Khan Younis, a city in southern Gaza. The Israeli military's operations have driven many families to seek refuge in already crowded regions like al-Mawasi to the west and Deir el-Balah to the north.
In the past 24 hours, Gaza’s health officials have reported that military strikes have resulted in 66 Palestinian deaths across the region. The Israeli army has increased its operations, pushing deeper into towns such as al-Karara (Kissufuim), az-Zanna, and Bani Suheila in the eastern part of Khan Younis.
The Israeli military has stated that the intensified raid is a response to renewed rocket attacks from these areas and aims to disrupt Hamas’s activities. They claim to have eliminated numerous fighters and destroyed critical military infrastructure.
In Rafah, a city near the Egypt border, Israeli forces have advanced into the northern districts but have not yet established full control. Similarly, in the central Gaza Strip, including areas like Bureij camp, Nuseirat camp, and Juhor ad-Dik village, residents have been forced to evacuate following tank shelling and new evacuation orders from the military.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has indicated that evacuation orders now affect 86 percent of the Gaza Strip.
The ongoing conflict has had a devastating toll, with reports indicating at least 39,324 fatalities and 90,830 injuries in Gaza. The violence began intensifying following Hamas-led attacks on October 7, which resulted in approximately 1,139 deaths and over 200 captives in Israel.
The situation remains dire as the humanitarian crisis deepens, with many displaced Palestinians facing uncertain futures amid the escalating conflict.
