BHUBANESWAR:  In a tragic incident, three students died after drowning in Nalia River here in the district today. The deceased youth were identified as Smruti Ranjan Swain, Pranay Lenka,  and Rajat Jena -- all were the Plus 2 students of Charampa College in Bhadrak district.

Locals claim that the five Charampa College Class 11 students were bathing in the river when the unfortunate incident took place.

All five students were saved by the local fire department, who arrived on the scene quickly. They were taken to the Bhadrak hospital, where the three kids were later confirmed dead. After receiving first aid, two other students were discharged after first aid.

PK  Khara, doctor of the Bhadrak hospital said: "We received three of them dead at the hospital and their post-mortem examination will be conducted and the exact cause will be ascertained after that."Today, a really unfortunate occurrence occurred in which three of our young children perished.

The Red Cross has offered assistance to the deceased. I would lobby the government to grant each member of the deceased person's family an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 4 lakh "announced Sanjib Kumar Mallick, a local MLA.
On getting information, Bhadrak MLA Sanjib Kumar Mallick and Block chairperson reached the hospital to console bereaved families.
