CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu and parts of Puducherry are expected to witness thunderstorms and lightning on Monday, according to the regional office of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Chennai.

Fishermen are urged not to enter the sea till Tuesday since light to moderate rain is anticipated in various areas of Tamil Nadu during the next two days. The state water works department has already started maintaining canals to prevent water logging after the recent moderate to heavy rains that hit Chennai and the neighbouring districts.

Parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikkal are likely to see light to moderate rainfall. The Camorin region, Gulf of Mannar, South Tamil Nadu coast, and Southwest Bay of Bengal are all predicted to see high winds with speeds of 40–50 km/h, according to the weather department.

Given the probability of wind, rain, thunderstorms, and lighting, the IMD has advised against fishermen entering the sea in these locations until Tuesday. The southwest monsoon was strong over the Tamil Nadu region on June 16 and usual from June 17 to June 22. Notably, torrential rains have lashed numerous locations in Tamil Nadu during the previous week along with moderate to heavy rains in several other areas.
