The data of about 23.5 million subscribers of Instagram, TikTok and YouTube has been leaked. Private profiles of all users are available on the dark web. According to the security researchers of the website 'Comperitek', which works in the interest of consumers, there is an unsafe database behind this data theft. While Instagram is owned by Facebook, the short video messaging app TikTok overcomes China's ByteDance. The ownership of YouTube is close to that of Google.

Forbes quoted security researchers as saying, "User data was spread across multiple datasets and profile records were taken from Instagram. Among the data leaked, 4.2 crore TikTok subscribers belong to it and 40 million are from YouTube users. The rest of the data belongs to the Instagram user. One of the five records included the user's telephone number or email address, profile name, full real name, profile photo, account details, number of followers and likes etc. Paul Bischoff, editor of the website Comperitech, said, "The information will probably be the most valuable to cyber criminals running spammers and phishing operations."

Bischoff told in the report, "Although the data is publicly accessible, it is highly valuable due to its leaking as a database." According to the researchers, "Leaked data points of a company called Deep Social was banned by both Facebook and Instagram in 2018 after rinsing customer profile data. According to a Facebook spokesperson, 'stealing people's information from Instagram is a clear violation of our policies. We blocked Deep Social's access to our platform in June 2018 and sent him a legal summons".
