The deadline for linking Aadhaar card to the PAN card was extended once again. Now the PAN from the Aadhaar can be added till March 31, 2019. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issued this information by issuing an order. The government has extended the deadline for connecting PAN with Aadhaar card for the fifth time.

The CBDT issued an order to extend the deadline under Section 119 of Income Tax on Saturday late night. Earlier, on March 27, it had issued an order that till June 30, the Aadhaar and the PAN can be linked. In the new order it has been said that after considering the issue, a decision has been taken to extend the deadline. This decision of the CBDT came after the Supreme Court discussion in which it had asked the Aadhar Card to carry forward the last date of connecting other facilities with effect from 31 March 2018.

The Supreme Court had ordered that the deadline should be extended until the decision of the constitutional bench of five judges on the validity of the Aadhaar card scheme and the law related to it. The government has now made the foundation necessary for creating a new PAN card and filing income tax returns. According to updated data up to March, 16.65 crores out of 33 crore PAN cards have been added to the Aadhar card.
