As Covid-19 continues to race around the globe, more and more people are having to work from home. For some, this does not pose an issue, but for others whose careers mean they cannot work remotely, it may be more of an issue. Here are some tips on how to make some extra money from home during self-isolation.

Start a YouTube Channel

Now more than ever, people are turning to technology for entertainment and advice. Yes, YouTube may be an oversubscribed platform in many ways, but that doesn't mean you can't make some extra money from home this way. There are plenty of ways to connect using YouTube, for example creating everyday vlogs about what you are doing to keep busy during the pandemic, ideas to entertain the kids or even recording advice and lesson videos. Popular topics include how to recession-proof your finances, tips on learning a new language or hair and make-up videos, so if you have any skills or experience in these areas you could quickly see your followers increase, along with a nice side hustle revenue.

With many people missing their daily gym fix, workout videos have also surged in popularity, as have videos that focus on teaching cooking with just a few ingredients as many of us learn to live on a tighter, lock-down budget. One of the best things about starting a YouTube channel is that you won't incur any start-up costs or even need any fancy camera equipment to begin. The most basic digital cameras can do the trick when you are just starting out and once you have 1,000 followers and have passed the threshold of 10,000 views, then the potential to make some real money truly begins. Remember to link your channel to your social media in order to increase your follows and views.

Sell Something You Love

Being at home for a long period of time is the perfect opportunity to have a clear out. Most of us have gadgets we no longer use or clothes lurking at the back of our wardrobe that we always plan to fit into one day, but just never do. Apps such as Depop are perfect for selling your pre-loved fashion and beauty items online, with MusicMagpie and Ziffit two great apps for shifting no longer used tech items such as tablets and old cell phone models, along with books and DVDs. Another great way to make money from home is by setting up your own online business.

Whilst this may seem intimidating at first, there are lots of ways you can build your brand from the comfort of your living room. There are plenty of online business sites that have everything you need to get started, like Shopify, from creating your storefront, listing your items, all the way through to shipping and collecting payment. Etsy is also a great website to use for selling homemade products, so whether you are a whizz with making cosmetics create gorgeous jewelry or handmade home décor, there has never been a better time to set up your home business and start selling online.
