West Bengal Chief Minister is all set to retain her power for a third time with her party Trinamool Congress. Till now according to the hours of counting done TMC is crossing the halfway mark in the closely contested assembly election 2021 in the state.

TMC was leading in 168 seats, while the BJP was leading in 101 seats. However, for the most part of early trends, both parties were neck and neck as the latest leads continue to come in. However, the Chief Minister herself is trailing in Nandigram by over 8000 votes. Banerjee is contesting against the BJP’s Suvendhu Adhikari, her ex-aide, whose December here. Counting of votes for the West Bengal Assembly elections began at 8 am on Sunday amid strict health protocols. According to the early trends showed that though chief minister Mamata is trailing behind BJP`s Suvendu Adhikary in Nandigram, the ruling Trinamool Congress is having an edge over the BJP. The 2021 assembly election has been a major test for the ruling TMC as the saffron brigade had put in all its might to make its footmark for the first time in West Bengal. Counting of the postal ballots show Trinamool having an edge over the BJP, it is also indicative that the government employees who turned their face away from the ruling party are showing signs of coming back into the Trinamool fold. In the last Lok Sabha elections, on the basis of postal ballots, the BJP was ahead in 41 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats.

The ambitious BJP did intense campaigning with the goal to topple TMC government in the state. ‘Tolabaazi’’ (extortion), `cut money`, syndicate raj and appeasement politics were a few topics over which the BJP targeted the ruling TMC. Mamata chose Nandigram over her home turf Bhabanipur seat this time to test her fate in the 2021 elections.
