AGARTALA: Trinamool Congress (TMC) today ( August 24)removed Subal Bhowmik from the post of President of the party's Tripura state committee.

Former Congress MLA Bhowmik joined the TMC in July of the previous year. He was appointed to serve as the TMC state president after party leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated on April 29 that Tripura, which is governed by the BJP, has a 132-member full-fledged state committee.

Sources claim that Bhowmik, who previously belonged to the BJP, is likely to re-join the saffron party because he gets along well with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha. The Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress said in a statement on Wednesday that Bhowmik had been removed from his duties as state president with immediate effect.

The positions of the remaining members of the State Committee, State Youth Committee, State Mahila Committee, State SC Cell, and State ST Cell should remain unchanged.  Rajib Banerjee, the TMC's representative for Tripura state, and Sushmita Dev, the party's Rajya Sabha member, will oversee party operations till a new state president is chosen.

Bhowmik, who has switched political parties seven times to date, was the state vice-president of the BJP until the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, at which point he switched to the Congress and ran on their ticket. Pratima Bhowmik, a BJP candidate who is currently a minister of state in the Narendra Modi Cabinet, defeated him in the race. In July 2021, he later switched back to Trinamool Congress.

Several TMC leaders and supporters, including Baptu Chakraborty, a general secretary of the party's state committee, had left Trinamool and moved back to Congress a month earlier on the grounds that the Bengal-based party was cooperating with the BJP. Bhowmik, however, would not comment on his next move.
