New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is expected to introduce a resolution in the Rajya Sabha for the long-awaited Women's Reservation Bill in the last week of Parliament's Budget Session.

The bill proposes that women be given one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures. The TMC's drive for the Women's Reservation Bill is considered as a political move by the party, which is led by Mamata Banerjee, the country's only woman Chief Minister, and has 34% women MPs in its parliamentary team.

"The West Bengal TMC government appreciates the critical role that women play in the development of our society and the nation's growth. TMC member Derek O' Brien, who might file the motion in the Rajya Sabha on Monday under House Rule 168, remarked, "It is committed to provide them with 33 percent reservation in Parliament and state legislative assembly."

According to the notice, India dropped 28 places to 140th out of 156 nations in the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2021, owing to a dramatic drop in the proportion of women ministers, which has halved from 23 percent in 2019 to 9.1 percent in 2021. The current market share is 14 percent."

The notice mentions, that India's position in the Inter-Parliamentary Union's Women in National Parliaments Rankings has continuously declined over the years. India was ranked 95th in 1998. India is ranked 144th out of 184 countries as of March 2022.

"The Union Government's priorities are it's own." It intends to introduce criminal identification legislation as well as MCD legislation. "Why isn't women's empowerment on their agenda?" we inquire. O'Brien brought it up.
