CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government has asked for feedback on the draught legislation to regulate online games from stakeholders including members of the public, parents, teachers, students, youth, psychologists, social activists, and online gaming service providers.

The government has been made aware of the need to prohibit or regulate online gambling, and political party leaders, psychologists, and social activists have been emphasising the negative impacts of addiction to online gaming and gambling, according to the government. In the recent past, reports of 20 deaths attributed to the financial hardship brought on by online rummy have been made.

Many nations have laws limiting or outlawing online gaming because the government claims that playing these games unrestrainedly causes learning and social difficulties.

\The government is taking into consideration the recommendations of a committee on new online game regulations, which is chaired by Justice (retired) K. Chandru.

Before August 12, 2022, the stakeholders may submit their comments to homesec@tn.gov.in. Organizations may submit their request by August 9, 2022, at 5 p.m., if they wish to personally address the relevant authority. The stakeholder consultation will start at 4 p.m. on August 11.

Organizations will be granted their own time periods. The government has said that these organisations may only participate in the consultation after receiving their time slots.
