CHENNAI: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam slammed the DMK government on Friday for failing to act on the cancellation of medical entrance tests.
Panneerselvam, citing Governor R.N. Ravi's return of the state Assembly's Bill, expressed worry that the Bill had been passed on September 13, 2021, but had not left Tamil Nadu for President's assent all these months.
The DMK government's lackadaisical approach is the reason for the Bill's failure to pass out of Tamil Nadu, said Panneerselvam. The DMK party, which had previously stated that if it came to power, it would abolish the NEET exam, delayed the process by four months by forming a committee and then introducing the Bill in the Assembly. "The entrance exam would not have existed at all if the DMK had merely withdrew its support for the then-Congress administration at the Centre in 2010, when NEET was instituted," Panneerselvam remarked.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has convened a conference on Saturday of all parties with representatives in the Assembly to consider the future steps.
