Coast Guard should focus on technology to overcome security challenges: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday made an important statement at the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Commanders' Conference. He asked the ICG to become a technology-oriented force to meet traditional and future national security challenges. He also said that the government is committed to creating a self-reliant coast guard.

Important role of ICG: The Defense Minister described the ICG as the main strength of India. He said that this force ensures the security of the country's vast coastline and also contributes to protecting against internal disasters. Rajnath Singh said that we now need to move from a man-dominated force to a technology-oriented force, especially in today's unpredictable times when we have to face traditional and emerging threats.

Technological revolution and security: Rajnath Singh said that the world is now going through a technological revolution. With the help of new technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum technology and drones, significant changes are taking place in the field of security. He also discussed the possibility of increasing maritime threats in the future and said that we have to be alert and prepared.

Importance of manpower: However, Rajnath Singh also clarified that the importance of manpower will always remain. He said that we should take care of human resources along with technology. There is a need to identify the ICG as a technology-oriented coast guard force.

Incorporation of latest technology: The Defence Minister emphasised on the positive side of adoption of latest technology by the ICG. But at the same time, he advised the commanders to be cautious of its negative side.

Construction of indigenous ships : The Defense Minister also said that the government is committed to empowering the armed forces and the ICG with indigenous platforms and equipment. He informed that 31 ships are being built for the ICG in Indian shipyards at a cost of more than Rs 4,000 crore. In this way, Rajnath Singh has called for taking important steps towards equipping the Indian Coast Guard with modern technology and making it self-reliant. His statement is an attempt to give a new direction in the field of security, which will keep the country's maritime borders safe.
