Lucknow: Around two dozen girl students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Behjam in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh were locked up on the terrace by their two teachers on Thursday night. Laxmikant Pandey, Basic Education Officer, Lakhimpur Kheri, while talking to the media on Friday said that the teachers used such tactics to put pressure on the district officials to cancel their transfer to another KGBV on disciplinary grounds.

He further told that, Warden Lalit Kumari informed him and District Coordinator, Girls Education Renu Srivastava about the incident, after which he reached the school and remained there for several hours. Women police were called from the local police station and the girls were brought back to their hostel rooms. Pandey said that in this regard, an FIR has been lodged by District Coordinator Girl Education Renu Srivastava against two teachers Manorama Mishra and Goldie Katiyar under IPC sections.

He said that a departmental inquiry would be conducted by a four-member committee into the matter. The committee has been asked to submit its report in three days. He said that if found guilty in the investigation, strict action would be taken against the teachers including termination of the service contract.
