Gudi Padwa,the festival of Marathis, is the new year according to the Hindu Calender.The first month of the yearis called Chaitra and the first day of Chaitra is known as ‘Ugadi’. That’s why The Gudi Padwa called ‘Ugadi in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The festival usually comes in March or April and this year, the festival comes on April 8 on Friday. The pratipada tithi begins on April 7 at 4:53 PM and ends on April 8 at 1:05 PM. The festival of Ugadi is celebrated with more zeal and fervor and, people clean their houses, wear new clothes and on the day of festival they put torans of raw mango leaves on their doors.

There is also a tradition of bathing at dawn and apply hair oil and making dish called ‘Ugadi Pachadi’ Ugadi Pachadi is a dish which is made by jiggery,raw mango,neem and tamarind. The celebrations end in the evening when people gather to listen to the religious panchangam or alamanac of the New Year.
