World Organ Donation Day is celebrated every year on 13th August in the country. It aims to spread public awareness about organ donation. The number of organ donations after death is very low. The situation has worsened in the corona crisis. The number of organ donors in Delhi has been reduced to half for the last one and a half years. Doctors say a person can save the lives of eight people by donating his heart, two lungs, pancreas, two kidneys, cornea (eyes), and intestines. In such a situation, there is a need to make people aware of organ donation.

Dr. Vikas Aggarwal of the Kidney Transplant Department of the same Akash Hospital says that 1.50 lakh kidney patients in the country require transplants every year, but only 12,000 transplants are performed. The biggest reason for this is that there is a lack of awareness among people about organ donation. Patients who are declared brain dead. The patient's organs can be donated with the approval of his family members. Organ donation of a person can save the lives of many people.

Deepak Kalar, a doctor at the same Fortis Hospital, says the corona epidemic has negatively affected organ donation and transplantation in all countries. The transplant facility has been converted into covid hospitals, which has raised the concerns of both doctors and patients. Covid patients are being treated on a large scale in hospitals so patients are not coming for transplant for fear of getting infected. However, even after all this, the transplants are going on continuously. It is expected that the number will increase after the improved conditions.
