Heavy rains to occur in several states today, IMD issues alert

New Delhi: Rain and floods have created a stir across central and western India. From Chhattisgarh to Gujarat and Maharashtra, heavy rains are lashing out everything with them. The situation in Gujarat is the worst. At the same time, 99 people have lost their lives due to floods and rains in Maharashtra so far. The MET department has issued a heavy rainfall alert in central India as well as in Kerala today. The monsoon has brought with it calamity in the form of rain. This has caused a lot of devastation in many areas of the country. In the areas of western India, it is as if water wants to take away everything. Navsari in Gujarat has received so much rain that the Coast Guard had to take up a front to rescue the people.

The same situation is so bad that the movement of small vehicles on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway 8 was stopped. The same is the case with Vadodara in Gujarat. In Vadodara too, the NDRF team rescued around 178 persons from Sambhoi village amid the floods. The trouble for Gujarat has not yet abated. According to the MET department, a warning has been issued for heavy rain at several places in the southern parts of the state and Saurashtra region today. Heavy rains have also worsened the situation in Maharashtra adjoining Gujarat. So far, 99 people have lost their lives. Due to heavy rains, there have been incidents like rock slides in many areas. The MET department has issued an orange alert in several areas including Nagpur today. In view of the flood and rain situation in Latur, all schools up to 12th standard have been declared closed till Saturday. People are not taking lessons amidst the havoc of flood rain.  

In Madhya Pradesh also, the coming 24 hours are going to be very heavy. Bhopal has issued an orange alert in the districts of Jabalpur, Narmadapuram, Indore and Ujjain divisions. An alert has been sounded for heavy rain in Sagar, Damoh and Umaria of the Bhopal division. An alert has also been sounded in neighbouring Chhattisgarh of Madhya Pradesh. An orange alert has been issued in Mungeli, BeMETara, Kabirdham, Dantewada and Bijapur in the state. Similarly, a yellow alert of rain has been issued in Sukma, Rajnandgaon, Durg, Mahasamund, Dhamtari, Gariaband, Balodabazar, and Janjgir and Bilaspur districts. According to the MET department, most parts of the state may receive moderate to heavy rainfall. The monsoon season continues in Rajasthan, where torrential rains lashed the eastern parts of the state during the last 24 hours. Rain will continue at most of the places in the state on Friday. In Barmer, a student died after drowning while taking a bath in a pond. Director of Jaipur METeorological Centre Radheshyam Sharma said that due to the shifting of the monsoon trough line towards the Himalayas from July 17, the rainfall activity in parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions of western Rajasthan is likely to decrease from July 17-18. He said light to moderate rainfall in some parts of eastern Rajasthan is likely to continue in the coming days from July 16. According to IMD, the sky will be cloudy in Delhi on Friday with light rain. While the minimum temperature on Thursday was recorded at 28.4 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal and the whole day was full of heat and humidity.
