Tokyo Silver medal champion and proud of India Saikhom Mirabai Chanu joined the Manipur Police on Saturday as an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP). Chanu was joined by her father, Saikhom Kriti Meitei, and mother, Saikhom Tombi, as she assumed command of the new duty and donned the official uniform.

Following her success in the Olympics, the Manipur government named her as ASP (Sports). Following her appointment as ASP (Sports), the 27-year-old Olympian paid a courtesy visit on Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who had earlier awarded her a prize of Rs 1 million.

"Our Nation's pride, Olympian silver medalist Mirabai Chanu has taken charge as the Additional Superintendent of Police (Sports), Manipur Police and called on me at my office today," Singh tweeted.

She also expressed her happiness after joining as the ASP. "It is an honour to have joined the Manipur Police as the Additional Superintendent of Police (Sports). I would like to thank the State of Manipur and our Chief Minister N Biren Singh Sir, for giving me this opportunity to serve the country and its citizens," she tweeted.
