Tokyo: In a view of increasing corona cases due to new strain of coronavirus, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government on Saturday decided to request the Japanese government to declare a state of emergency.

According to the report of NHK broadcaster, The Tokyo metropolitan government is expected to ask the central government to declare a state of emergency on Saturday as coronavirus cases surged. Tokyo plans to file a request jointly with Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, which has also seen a rapid spread of the virus.

Coronavirus is wreaking havoc in Japan. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Japan has recorded 239,038, while the death toll stands at 3,341, according to the latest data from the Coronavirus Resource Center of the Johns Hopkins University. Meanwhile, The global tally of coronavirus cases stands at 83,965,549. While 59,457,996 have recovered, 1,828,684 have lost their lives. Meanwhile, the US continues to be the worst-hit country with 20,462,501 cases.
