New Delhi: Prices of vegetables are currently on the rise. Other green vegetables, including potato and tomato and onion, are disappearing from the people's plate. The price of tomato is between Rs 80 to Rs 100 per kg in the country. Potato and onion cost Rs 40 to 50 per kg. The rain has led to a decline in the arrival of vegetables in the Mandis, leading to a huge gap between demand and supply.

In Kolkata, tomatoes are sold at Rs 100 per kg in the retail market. The price of tomato is between Rs 60 and Rs 80 per kg in other places in the country. These are the most recent potatoes and onions. Potato is priced at Rs 50 per kg and onions are also selling at the same price. The prices of vegetables are continuously increasing in Delhi. A vegetable seller at Ghazipur vegetable mandi said, "Vegetables have deteriorated in the rain, so the prices of vegetables are rising. The tomato is currently selling at Rs 60 a kg and is being priced at Rs 1300-1400".

In Azadpur-APMC, Asia's largest wholesale fruit and vegetable mandi, the price of tomatoes is between Rs 40 and Rs 60 kg. Ashok Kaushik of PPA Tomato Association, Azadpur Mandi said reports of short supply are increasing tomato prices.
