Tomato prices reach sky high, know today's rates

New Delhi: Despite the steps taken by the central government, the increase in prices of tomatoes has not stopped. In the national capital Delhi, tomato prices were again increased on Friday. In Delhi's Azadpur mandi, the wholesale price of tomatoes has reached Rs 50 per kg, while the retail price has gone up to Rs 80 per kg. Traders said that due to less supply of tomato, its price is increasing.

To control tomato inflation after onion, the government on Thursday decided to provide tomato puree at cheaper rates from the successful outlets of Mother Dairy, but still there was no difference in the rise in tomato prices. The government has provided a pack of 200 grams of tomato puree at Rs 25, which is equal to 800 grams of tomatoes, at the outlets of Safal. A bigger pack of 825 grams of tomato puree is sold for 85 rupees, which is equivalent to 2.5 kg tomatoes.

According to the price list of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee of Delhi (APMC), the wholesale price of tomatoes in Delhi was Rs 16-50 per kg on Friday, while the wholesale price of tomatoes in Azadpur mandi on Thursday a day before was Rs 12-46. Per kg. An increase of four rupees has been recorded in the wholesale price. Retail tomatoes were sold in Delhi-NCR on Friday at Rs 50-80 per kg.
