Abuja: In Abuja, visiting US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and other officials to discuss the US administration's interest in the West African country.

According to a statement released by the Nigerian president, Buhari and Blinken met in Abuja to discuss concerns such as regional security and climate change. It quoted Blinken as adding that the US and Nigeria have different difficulties, but that security and the hope for greater relationships are shared denominators.

Buhari's contributions to climate protection, particularly his participation and comments at the recent COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland, were praised by the US top diplomat, who had already held a virtual meeting with the Nigerian leader earlier this year.

According to reports, Blinken discussed a number of areas with Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama at a joint press conference in Abuja on Thursday, including security, climate change, education, health, and work with the West African country on important critical infrastructure under the USAID framework.
