The severe cyclonic storm in the southwest states of India now seems to be receding, but the states through which the cyclone has passed have caused trees to fall on the roads. It is raining heavily. People have left their homes and shifted to other safe places. On Monday night, a speed of 185 kmph hit the coasts of Gujarat. More than 1.5 lakh people were evacuated to safer places in Gujarat. Heavy rain and winds are blowing in several states including Maharashtra under the influence of cyclone.
It has been learnt that after a day of crossing the coastal areas of Karnataka and Goa, power and internet connectivity issues have been reported at many places in both the states on Monday, even as highways have been blocked due to falling of trees in some areas. Many people have died in this severe cyclone. Six people have lost their lives in Karnataka, two in Goa, 4 in Kerala. In these three states, 12 people have lost their lives in the storm.
The Met ministry has said that the cyclone has been weakening since the devastation in Gujarat. Tauktae is causing a lot of havoc in the southwest states including Gujarat, Maharashtra. The Indian Navy and NDRF are conducting rescue operations continuously.
