Toyota Motor Corporation has announced that it would further halt car manufacturing in Japan this month because of a shortage of parts caused by the rising number of Covid-19 cases among autoworkers. This interruption occurs as automakers around the world continue to struggle with a lack of semiconductors.

According to a company spokesperson, the break would reduce planned production by 65,000 vehicles this month, which is 18,000 more than it stated last week. According to the spokeswoman, the corporation would make efforts to make up for lost production in February. Last week, the manufacturer said that it may not be able to meet its yearly target of 9 million vehicles due to a shortage of chips. The fiscal year of the corporation concludes on March 31. A shift on a second manufacturing line at the Tsutsumi facility, as well as another shift on a separate line at the central Japan site, had been suspended.

Toyota had also stopped production in China because to the country's Covid-Zero Policy, which mandates widespread testing. According to a previous report, the company's China production has been shut for more than a week. Volkswagen, too, has been battling with the rigorous quarantine and mass testing restrictions, according to the report. It had said that its facility, which produces roughly 3,00,000 cars per year, including the Audi Q3, had been temporarily closed owing to component shortages and pending worker test results.

Due to the global chip crisis and an increase in Covid-19 cases, automakers such as Honda Motor Co and Nissan Motor Co have announced production cuts.

Nissan's Chief Executive Officer Makoto Uchida said that the corporation is "on the mend." "Despite the fact that the chip scarcity scenario is still unknown. "We anticipate the market to rebound, but the Covid situation remains uncertain, and we must be prepared and vigilant." "Uchida said.
