The United Front of the Central Trade Unions has called for a nationwide bandh today i.e. Monday and tomorrow i.e. Tuesday against the policies of the Central Government. Due to the Bharat Bandh, the functioning of the banks may be stalled for two days, because the All India Bank Employees' Association has also extended its support to the bandh. On the other hand, the trade unions have demanded the government to scrap the labour code, stop any kind of privatisation with immediate effect, do away with the National Monetization Pipeline (NMP), extend the days of wage allocation under MGNREGA and regularize the contract labourers.

As per the information received, the two-day nationwide general strike called by the trade unions from today i.e. Monday is likely to have minimal impact on the jute industry in West Bengal. This is because a section of union leaders have doubted the success of the call to stop work with mills reeling under a raw material crisis. On the other hand, millers also felt that there would be no impact on the jute industry as the Mamata Banerjee government in the state was against any kind of strike. A 48-hour nationwide strike/bandh has been called by various trade unions on March 28 and 29 in protest against the government policies.

The Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal has not supported the Bharat Bandh called by the trade unions on March 28 and 29 against the centre's policies. At the same time, on the Bengal government's opposition to the Bharat Bandh, She said, "The Left trade unions, student bodies and supporters will take to the streets and make this Bharat Bandh a success."
