Ranchi: In a devastating incident, three young students lost their lives in a drowning accident at Hazaribagh's Lotwa Dam in Jharkhand. The police have reported that three other students are currently missing, and those who lost their lives were minors.
The incident occurred around 11 am when a group of boys, aged between 16 and 17, had gone to the dam for a picnic. Lotwa Dam is situated approximately 25 kilometers away from Hazaribagh town. So far, the police have successfully recovered the bodies of three victims, and a team from the National Disaster Response Force, brought in from Ranchi, is actively engaged in the search for the missing students, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police Manoj Ratan Chothe.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his condolences on the social media platform 'X,' extending his sympathies to the families of the deceased students. He described the incident as profoundly saddening and noted that the district administration is diligently conducting rescue and relief operations. The Chief Minister offered his prayers for peace for the departed children and strength for their grieving families.
The states of Bihar and Jharkhand have witnessed a surge in drowning incidents in recent times. Between September 17 and 20, a total of six drowning cases were reported in these two states, resulting in the tragic loss of 16 lives.
Out of the 16 fatalities from these heartbreaking incidents, nine occurred in four districts of Bihar, including Nalanda, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, and Munger. In Jharkhand, the tragedies claimed the lives of seven young girls in two districts, specifically Giridih and Sahibganj.
