According to a recent report, TRAI said that the new price has been fixed after the changes made in the system. It is based on cost reimbursement. TRAI Chairman R.S. Sharma said, 'Mobile numbers are based on portability cost reimbursement and these have been added accordingly.
The new rates of mobile number portability will come into effect from 30 September. Telecom operators have to pay different agencies for every mobile number portability transaction. After the new fees fixed by TRAI, now the telecom operators will be saved in every transaction.
Telecom operators now have to pay 19 rupees for every new customer. This payment goes to the account of the mobile number service provider agency like Syniverse Technologies and MNP Interconnection Telecom Solutions.

The new rate that TRAI has set is 70% lower than the previous rate. This will greatly benefit the telecom companies. After the introduction of the new rates, other companies of the country like Airtel, Vodafone will also save up to Rs 75 crore annually.
Apart from this, TRAI Chairman RS Sharma said in this matter, 'We have changed the way mobile number portability. Earlier it was based on the unique porting code generated by the donor operator in which operators had an option to retain their subscribers. However, in this, they were mostly rejected by subscribers.'
Also, on the other hand, the telecom operators used to pay much less to the subscribers than the MNP companies paid for the number portability. Subscribers migrating to other operators were only charged for SMS. It used to be between 3 rupees to 5 rupees. Also, companies used to pay much more than this to agencies for number portability.

According to media reports, the legal screw-on MNP was reduced by the government in January this year from Rs 19 to Rs 4, the price of mobile number portability. However, the government's decision was quashed in March 2019 after a case in the Delhi High Court by Sinners Technology against the new rates.
Three months after that, in July, Reliance filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Delhi High Court, in which it was appealed to withdraw the Delhi High Court's decision in which the mobile number portability prices were again From 19 rupees was made.
The MNP agencies were dealt a major blow by the Supreme Court's decision as they had to collect the arrears of porting fees associated with the telecom operators from February 2018. This outstanding amount was 120 crores. In June 2019, service providers received 43 lakh porting requests. Since the inception of mobile number portability, approximately 43.7 crore MNP have been requested from May 2019 till June 2019 which has crossed 4.41 crore.
