The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has announced some changes and proposals for changes to the rules in road transport that will affect vehicle owners as well as cab travellers. Under the new set of rules announced by the Ministry of Road, the vintage and classic cars across the country will now get special format registration plates. The Centre has released a new set of directives for the registration, certification of any passenger of car or two-wheeler that is fifty years older than its first date of registration.

The new guidelines aim to bring app-based vehicle aggregators like Ola, Uber under a regulatory framework that allows the government to protect the employees (drivers), consumers and reduce pollution from their operations.

Drivers will not be permitted to work for more than 12 hours in a day and the company is required to provide them with insurance coverage. It also said that drivers will be allowed to keep at least 80% of the ride fare.  The vehicle aggregators have been allowed to offer pooling services on private cars, with a daily limit of four intra-city rides on such shared cars, and two weekly inter-city rides.

The new registration plate colour scheme will follow the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) regulations and will use the traditional/standard white background with black numbers, letters. Vehicles have to display these new plates at both front and rear spots. And they will be according to the High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) format. Details of this new registration will also be fed into the national Parivahan portal.
