Jaipur: Five children drowned while bathing in a pond in the Mangalwar police station area of Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan on Sunday. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased children terming the incident as unfortunate.

CM Gehlot tweeted from his official Twitter handle, "The death of five children in a pond in Mangalwar in Chittorgarh is very heart-rending and unfortunate. My deepest thoughts are with the parents and family members of the children. May God empower them in this very difficult time.'' Police officer Harendra Sauda informed about the accident and said that six children between the ages of eight and twelve had gone for a bath in a pond in the Mangalwar area on Sunday.

He said that in the meantime, he suddenly slipped and went into deep water, killing five children on the spot, while one child managed to come out safely. Though some villagers jumped into the pond to save the children and rushed them to the hospital, the five children were declared brought dead by the doctor.
