If you want to visit a pilgrimage site during the winter season then the temple of Chamundeshwari Devi can be a good option. It is 13 km from Mysore city of Karnataka. Is located on a hill called Chamundi. This temple is dedicated to the Chamundeshwari form of Maa Durga. It is believed that at this place, Mother Durga killed Mahishasura. On the hill is a high statue of Mahishasura and the temple of mother. This temple is one of the major 18 Shaktipeeths in the country. It is believed that when Lord Shiva was performing a Tandava dance on the shoulder of Sati and Vishnu Bhagwan walked the Sudarshan Chakra to calm his anger, Sati's hair fell from it at this place. For this reason, this place of pilgrimage has been given the recognition of Shaktipeeth. In ancient times, this area was called Kraunchapuri, that is why this temple in South India is also known as Kraunchapitham. According to popular belief, Kalabhairav always resides here to protect this Shaktipeeth.

Temple structure
