A recent incident in Delhi emphasizes the dangers of booking budget accommodations in the city. In a troubling case of extortion and torture, a man staying at a hotel in Paharganj was attacked and robbed by a group of thugs. They forced him to pose with a naked woman and demanded a payment of 15,000 rupees to resolve the threatening situation.

Her colleague was in Delhi for a conference near Paharganj and booked an inexpensive hotel to store his luggage while attending the event. When he returned to collect his luggage, he encountered a disturbing situation. A group of four or five miscreants, along with a woman, entered his room. The woman stripped completely, and the accomplices took photos of her with the man.

They then blackmailed him, demanding Rs 15,000 and threatening to release the photos publicly if he did not comply. Bhardwaj recounted that the man was slapped and hit by the group and had to pay the amount to leave. The incident serves as a cautionary tale for travelers considering staying in low-cost hotels in the area.
