MELBOURNE: The charismatic Australian batsman Travis Head said he will remain "relaxed" and "cool" and wait for his opportunities leading up to the ODI World Cup in India next year, hinting he won't worry about making the squad for the major competition one year from now.

Head scored a superb 152, and he and David Warner had an opening partnership of 269 runs as they thrashed England by 221 runs (using the D/L method) and completed a clean sweep of the three-match series on Tuesday in Melbourne.

Despite excellent performances, including 128 in a commanding double-century opening stand with Warner in Adelaide in January 2017 and eight half-tons in 24 matches, Head found himself being cut from Australia's 50-over World Cup team for 2019. However, some poor results in a home series around the end of 2018 led to the left-hander being benched for the major competition in England.

Four years later, it appears that history is repeating itself for Head, but this time he is aware of what it was like to miss a World Cup and is aware of the expectations as the next one, which will be held in India next year, draws near.
"I have been in that situation and have watched from the twelve months prior to a World Cup; missing it was difficult because I thought things were going well and simply didn't go my way. To earn another chance, I moved away and played excellent domestic cricket for three years. It's off to a good start, but you can't count on it; I need to be calm and collected and believe in my abilities "Head made history on Tuesday at the MCG by scoring a record-breaking innings that helped the hosts dispatch England for 142 runs and score 355/5 in 48 overs.

Head, who was named "Player of the Series" during the Ashes earlier this year, continued, "I've played enough cricket now to know what the expectations are for Australia; I still retain a lot of pride in what I'm doing but I'm a lot more comfortable about things."

Head said, "I'm happy to bat everywhere for Australia," but his track record indicates that opening is where he performs best in the 50-over format, and he and Warner are forging a potent partnership. The report reads, "Head has 923 runs at 51.27 in 18 ODI innings as opener, nine runs more than his next best batting position."
