New Delhi: Today is the martyrdom day of the country's immortal son and Paramveer Chakra winner Albert Ekka. On this day i.e. on 3rd December 1971, Albert was martyred in the war with Pakistan. Born in the Jari area of ​​the Gumla district of undivided Bihar, Albert saw only 28 springs of his life. Ekka joined the erstwhile Bihar Regiment and then after the formation of 14 Guards shifted to that unit. Seeing his discipline during training in the army, he was posted as Lance Naik.  

He showed indomitable courage in the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. Ekka's unit with his battalion Brigade of Guards attacked a Pakistani bunker in the area of ​​Gangasagar in present-day eastern India. Despite being hit by bullets during the encounter with the enemy, he remained on the battlefield and demolished two enemies' MMGs.

During this, he himself entered the enemy's bunker with a hand grenade and killed a soldier firing MMG there. In this whole fight, his body was hit by many bullets from the enemies, but this brave son of Jharkhand did not die until the tricolor of India was hoisted on the base of the enemies. It was the day of December 3, 1971, when hundreds of miles away from his soil, Ekka was martyred for the glory of his country. His wife and children are still alive. His wife Balmdina Ekka lives in Gumla.
